Swanton Chamber of Commerce Announces Citizen of the Year for 2023: Marilyn Dunbar and Scampers
Swanton, VT – The Swanton Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to recognize Marilyn Dunbar and Scampers as the recipients of the 2023 Swanton Citizen-Business of the Year Award. With a legacy spanning 27 years, Scampers has been a cornerstone of the Swanton community, offering reliable and affordable clothing and goods since its inception in 1996.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including three economic downturns and two fires on Merchant’s Row, Marilyn and Scampers have persevered, demonstrating resilience and dedication to the community. Their commitment to supporting local initiatives and aiding those in need has been exemplary. Following disasters, they have generously donated clothing to affected individuals and supported various non-profit organizations such as Laurie’s House and Habitat for Humanity. Moreover, their collaboration with local Native American tribes underscores their commitment to community welfare.
Furthermore, beyond philanthropy, Marilyn and Scampers have been instrumental in providing employment opportunities, contributing to the vitality of the local economy. As one of approximately nine women-owned businesses in Swanton Village, Scampers embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship and community empowerment.
